Created in the early 90s in Russia by Igor Daniloff, Dr.Web has always reflected its author s basic philosophy: security means no compromise. Many innovations marked by Dr.Web has long become a standard for the AV industry, for example, cross-platform structure. Having appeared as the response to the growing threat of polymorphicviruses , Dr.WebAnti-virus still remains in the lead, always showing 100% results in the Virus Bulletin comparative reviews for this type of the most complicatedviruses.

The other feature that has always distinguished the Dr.Web anti-virus from its competitors is its low memory/resource usage, so that this AV remains unnoticeable to a user. This low footprint TOGETHER with its high detection abilities have attracted millions of users around the world to Dr.Web.
Dr.Web for Windows main components:
The Dr.Web scanner with graphical interface - It scans the selected by a user objects on drives by request, detects and neutralizes viruses in memory, checks autorun files and processes.

ASUS’S NEW ULTRATHIN NOTEBOOK TAKES A SHOT AT MACBOOK AIR

Dell Adamo might have taken the thinest notebook in town crown from the MacBook Air, but the later is still a full pound lighter. Now ASUS have come up with an ultrathin design of their own, which seems to give the MacBook, a run for its price tag.

The new ASUS UX30 is only 0.77 inches thick and weighs 3.1 lbs. In comparison, the MacBook Air is 0.76 inches thick and weights 3.0 lbs. Not a major difference physically but the UX30 has a USD 1,100 price tag compared to USD 1,500.
Spec wise, the MacBook still shines as the UX30 is powered by an Intel Core Duo SU 9400 processor running at 1.4GHz, and 3GB of DDR2 RAM. The notebook has a 13.3-inch TFT color, LED-backlit LCD display supporting a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768. Other specs include a 320GB hard drive, Wireless-N, BlueTooth, and HDMI connectivity as well as a 5-in-1 card reader.
The notebook would be running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version out of the box, so you can rest assured that the ULV processor would have enough muscle to power your multimedia tasks.
Even though there is a $400 difference here, I believe the MacBook Air is technically more superior to the UX30 thanks to having a faster processor, DDR3 RAM and a dedicated GPU. Clearly those extra 100s were put to good use.

ASUS TO LAUNCH EEE PC 1005P & 1008P PINEVIEW NETBOOKS WITH EXPRESSGATE

A new BIOS entry was just found on Asus’s support site by Netbook Italia. It reportedly points to a previously un-announced model of Asus Eee PC; the Eee PC 1005P, which according to the leaked bios will be powered by the next-generation Intel Pine Trail chipset - Intel Atom N450.

Also, as per the BIOS details - the netbook will feature Asus branded instant-on OS called ExpressGate, which utilizes Splashtop. The instant-on operating system still has a long way to go, as far as its usability is concerned. But Asus keeps on pushing it on its netbooks.

Hopefully, we’ll be able to provide you folks with more information in the future.

ASUS debuts world’s first laptops using NVIDIA 3D Vision tech

Asus is collaborating with Nvidia, to bring forward 2 laptops, the first of their kind, which shall be using Nvidia’s 3D Vision technology.

The first one; G51J - a gaming machine - will feature an Intel COre i7 mobile processor, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260m GPU - along with a full HD capable screen and a Blu-Ray drive.

The second of the two machines; UL50VS - will feature a low power consuming Intel CULV processor, a Nvidia GT210M graphic card - with a 15.6 inch screen capable of resolution of 1366×768 pixels and an Asus advertised battery life of about 12 hours.

Ben Berraondo, Nvidia PR manager for the UK and Northern Europe, admitted that the lesser laptop would be limited to “photos and Blu-ray films”, with only “mainstream, undemanding games” able to be run in either 2D or 3D using the laptop’s GPU.

While, he also claimed that 3D Vision “really adds to the [user] experience” and was a step above what has already been seen in 3D laptops, such as the Acer Aspire 5738DZG 3D. Berraondo said that while rival products had been “fun to look at” and “easy to use”, they hadn’t “delivered the 3D that’s available right now [with 3D Vision]”.

Speaking at the launch of the new products, Asus Marketing Specialist John Swatton said that the laptops would deliver “a truly immersive experience in 3D” and confirmed that both PCs would be released “mid-January”, although he wasn’t able to provide details on price.

ASUS ANNOUNCES ITS USB 3.0 PRODUCT LINE

USB 3.0 has been finalized for some time now, still we don’t expect a lot of devices running on the new standard this year. And maybe that’s why Intel doesn’t plan to support it yet either.

But this isn’t stopping manufacturers like ASUSTek who have unveiled their first products based on the SuperSpeed USB specifications. The two products are a new Intel P55 based motherboard and a PCI Express expansion card, providing USB 3.0 power.

The P7P55D-E Premium packs two USB 3.0 ports, which are being powered by a dedicated controller since Intel’s P55 Chipset doesn’t have USB 3.0 support. Along with that, the board comes with 10 standard USB 2.0 ports, two SATA 6Gb/s ports, six SATA 3Gb/s ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet as well as two PCI Express 2.0 x16 ports. That’s a lot of power for the P55 platform, and this would definitely take the board’s price north of $200 when released.

As for the second product – the ASUS U3S6 expansion card retails for a mere $30. As the name implies, the card features two USB 3.0 ports as well as two SATA 6Gb/s ports running on 4 lanes of the PCI Express bus. This card sounds like a nice option for those who don’t want to upgrade their motherboards but still want USB 3.0 in their system.

While USB 3.0 has a 10 times the theoretical performance of USB 2.0, I would still like to hold off on buying any of these until some real world devices enter the market.
